Ascent

A bright movement breaks through the dark field of the picture and draws the eye upward. “Ascent” stands for rising, transformation, and the leaving of a limited state. The direction is unmistakable; the destination stays hidden. Precisely there lies the tension of the work. Change often begins before we know where it leads. The picture therefore understands development less as arrival than as movement.
