White, grey and yellow reflections over dark water, with small figures between them and red accents at the right edge.

Afterlife

2017

Water, light and human figures merge in “Afterlife” into an in-between world. Clear boundaries between above and below, presence and absence, dissolve. The work is concerned with the question of whether existence really ends where our perception ends. Rather than giving a definite answer, the picture opens a space for personal imagining. Light appears again and again between darker passages and suggests continuity. “Afterlife” is less a depiction of the hereafter than a meditation on the unknown.
